Notes from the teacher: 

 √ Please send in an APPLE with your child this week to help us celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day!
√ This will be a review week for Reading Unit 1; see Home Fun packets for spelling list.
√ As a whole, the class did poorly on last week on the reading story. Please review the reading story this week with your child- we will be retesting on “My Rows and Piles of Coins” on Friday. The book will be coming home on Tuesday and Thursday as usual.

What we are learning this week: 

 Math

 o Subtraction meanings
o Subtracting on a hundreds chart
o Mental Math
o Estimating Differences

 Social studies 

o We are continuing to study economic topics: supply/demand, import/export, natural/capital/human resources, etc.

 Science 

o Describe functions of plant parts
o Look for a study guide this week; test on Friday

 Spelling 

o Spell vowel digraphs (two vowels together make a long sound)

 Reading

o Describe character traits and setting
o “My Rows and Piles of Coins” re-test on Friday.

 A.R. Party 

Your child has the opportunity to attend an Accelerated Reader celebration at the end of October. To attend, they must have 6 AR points. Most of the shorter third grade books count for half a point. Please encourage your child to read every night. They can check out a new book daily!

Back To School!

As the upcoming year quickly approaches, I am looking forward to meeting my new class!  I am very excited about the new school year!

Please chose ONE registration night to attend: either Tuesday, July 31th or Thursday August 2nd from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Registration will begin in the gym.  School supplies may be brought in during registration nights.  You can also take advantage of tax free weekend on August 3-5 and send supplies in the first day of school.

*New this year:  Our Kindergarten is transitioning to a full day schedule, so our entire school pick-up schedule will be slightly different.  Please read all registration day materials.
